Back with a Vengeance

Okay, I admit it: I have been in a hell of a slump for weeks. I've hardly written anything, and hardly done any commenting on your fine blogs... what the hell is wrong with me?

Well, for one thing, this stuff, current events and all that, is just so overwhelmingly depressing. I live in a world dominated by heartless, murderous liars. They control it, and they're going to keep on controlling it. Republicans. Democrats. Corporate whores at every level. Completely immoral and unethical. Their only goal is to obtain more money and power for themselves. They lie, cheat, steal, and kill to achieve their goals.

Honestly, I don't know which is worse: The devils I've just described, or the blind fools who sustain them. Case in point: the news medias' constant chatter about Bush's popularity dropping in the polls. What!? Since when does popular opinion matter to Bush and the neocons? They do whatever they want, and when election time comes, no matter what the polls say, no matter who votes for whom, they install themselves in office through litigation and vote fraud. Polls? Fuck the goddamn polls! Why not report about the fucking fraudulent elections that have demolished the last vestiges of democracy from this country!?

I swear, the supporters of these world leaders remind me of the poor, sick, sad souls who fall in love with incarcerated serial killers and send marriage proposals to them. If my own eyes and ears are to be believed, then most people in the world want to be abused; physically, psychologically, morally, everything; horribly. Those of us who don't want to abuse or be abused are taunted and subjected to derision, and told we are ignorant, and crazy. "Tin foil hat." "Take your meds." The same old tired taunts are dragged out time and again. We are the misfits because we can see that the emperor wears no clothes, while the supporters of these monsters revel in their Freudian orgy of appeasement of their masters.

As I said, I just became overwhelmed, for the last few weeks, with the madness of it all. Madness that would not be believed if it were portrayed as a story; it is so outrageous. Yet it happens. Again and again and again. And almost everyone loves it. And I go a little more mad each day.

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back in the saddle. But, as story came along that seemed like a good one to get back with, so I just had to write about it. It is the current goings on surrounding the ruling that the pledge of allegiance is unconstitutional.

Ha! Ha ha ha ha HA! Lets begin with a bit of history, shall we? Did you know that the pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist!? Hah! Is that a hoot or what? Dig this, truthseekers (the boldface emphasis is mine):
Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. He was a Christian Socialist. In his Pledge, he is expressing the ideas of his first cousin, Edward Bellamy, author of the American socialist utopian novels, Looking Backward (1888) and Equality (1897).

Francis Bellamy in his sermons and lectures and Edward Bellamy in his novels and articles described in detail how the middle class could create a planned economy with political, social and economic equality for all. The government would run a peace time economy similar to our present military industrial complex.
The author of the pledge of allegiance was a proponent of a government-run planned economy, the very antithesis of the free market conservatives champion? Ha ha ha ha ha! There's more:
In 1954, Congress, after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.

Bellamy's granddaughter said he also would have resented this second change. He had been pressured into leaving his church in 1891 because of his socialist sermons. In his retirement in Florida, he stopped attending church because he disliked the racial bigotry he found there.
So, these holy-rolling (and holier-than-thou) religious fanatics who want to force little kids to pray in school want the pope to control the way Americans voice their support for their country!? That is what they consider true-blue American: Papal sanction of patriotic loyalty!

Henry VIII didn't like that sort of thing, and neither do I. I'm glad that judge ruled that the pledge of allegiance is unconstitutional. As long as "under God" remains in it, it is a prayer. Take it OUT of public schools!

Howdy, Shea!

Glad to see the old spark! Nothing like a good kick in the seat to get one out of bed and in a fightin' mood!

Comments on the first part:

I agree entirely! Yes I do. However, I don't always see things in such black and white. I agree that our government is way out of control. We essentially have one party in Washington with the same goals. The problem is that they are just two identical dogs fighting for control of the worried piece of meat. Hillary Clinton ultimately wants the same thing George Bush does. Democrat the same as Republican. If this is true, then it comes down to power and who gets control. In order to control, one has to pander to the widest base in voters. In other words, where do I get the most votes and how do I manipulate those voters so that they will continue to vote for me. Well, the word for the day is "LIE". For example, you know I will defend Bush on issues such as "lying about WMD's", etc., but he HAS lied about what he wanted to do for America in order to placate conservative voters. He told them, smaller government--government has doubled under his and Clinton's administration. He promised lower taxes, but while the rates were cut, revenues from taxes have increased--how so? By increasing other taxes and fees. When I go on the "conservative" blogs, I point where Bush HAS lied--that is really where the left and Democrats should focus their energy--realistic things that are written in stone that you can genuinely nail the administration on--not kook stuff which is the average fair on Democrat blogs and websites. If we're going to hold our leaders' feet to the fire, then we need to work realistically on how to do that. I think the 'blogosphere" is informing us of our own impotence, but also our need to work together to come to solutions that may actually work.

In regards to your discouragement, BE ENCOURAGED! When I begin to focus on a nation out of control, I find the only way to get back up and go is to look immediately around me at the fine people who make every day life work--people like my neighbor who gets up every morning to go to work to feed his family and carve out the best living he can for his children, the guy in the next office who hates his supervisor, but refuses to compromise his work ethic and consistently performs even while the "cat is away", the cop that pulled me over last week, and showed me a picture of his wife and kid--sure I got a ticket, but got to know a fine upstanding guy who was interested in keeping everyone safe, friends I gained (left and right) who spent 72 hours straight unloading food, water and supplies to hurricane victims, the little old lady on a fixed income who pulled $10 out of her wallet and gave it to the love offering for the Katrina victims at church on Sunday. Yeah, it looks like a drunken party in Washington, but America is still what goes on around us, Shea.

Comments on the second part:

Truth to tell, Shea, I know you won't believe it, but I think the whole idea of the pledge fits in with socialism/fascism. I know that sounds kind of pinko of me, but I think that any oath forced upon someone in the name of an institution, idea, or entity is socialism/fascism. My allegiance to my country is subservient to several things, and so my pledging to it in any form may be a bit of dishonesty on my part. I served my country, and would again. But my country is not its government, but its people. When I pledge, I pledge my support to the good people of the United States both past and present who have sacrificed to give me the opportunities I have been given in life.

Keep kicking!

-Jack

I got through about a paragraph before your paranoid rant made me sick. You live in a delusional world full of demons of your own personal creation. Or so it seems from your writings.

Sorry you got sick from reading, Sean. Were you in the car? I used to get sick from reading in the car. Honestly, though, I don't create the demons. I just apply value judgments to existing conditions. In any case, it's too bad you didn't get to the part about the pledge of allegiance. It would be fun to read what you managed to type out regarding that.

Since the only comments you offer anymore are expressions of personal dislike for me and, of course, your consistently predictable insult (see paragraph 4), we can only conclude that you really have nothing to offer but that. Too bad. Talk about personal demons. Whenever you come around, it seems, you only do so to criticize me. Keep trying, man. Eventually you might actually write something about the post, and not just about me!

Folks, the "voter" base is not what is driving the system; the "cash" base is. Get the money out of politics and you'll soon see the country return to the voters. Look at www.wicleanelections.org and azclean.org to see how to get your country back.

Where did that come from? Are you just up for some Catholic bashing now? Talk about out of the blue without support.

First, nobody is forcing little kids to pray. Why? Well, contrary to your rant, the pledge is not a prayer. A prayer is:

1. A reverent petition made to God, a god, or another object of worship.
2. The act of making a reverent petition to God, a god, or another object of worship.

The pledge is anything but a "petition to God". It is nothing more than an acknowledgement that this nation was founded by those who believe in God.

Second, nobody has to say the pledge if they choose not to. Pretty terrible (for your rant) but that's the ugly truth.

Apparently you did not attend any schools in the rural southwest. There was a time when kids had to say the pledge of allegiance and were punished if they refused.

Remeber, Sean, there are things that occur outside of your experience. You don't know everything.

There was a time ...

How about now? That's what I thought.

And I would be right there criticizing, and suing, any school that forced the pledge on any student.

Remember Shea, times change.

Oh, and you didn't address the fact that this actually is not prayer.

Oh, and one more thing Shea, since you seem to be ignorant as to why Henry VIII started the Church of England (a state run church, by the way - the very reason the Establishment Clause was added to the Constitution. Not to prevent any acknowledgement of God, but to guard against the tyranny of a State Church.).

You see, England required its citizens to take a loyalty oath to the Church of England. Anyone who refused was jailed. Some were even executed. Take Thomas More. Very favored by the king, in high position, and still lost his head.

It wasn't that Hank #8 didn't like "papal sanction of patriotic loyalty", he just wanted a divorce. The pope refused, so Hank #8 started his own church, with him as the head making the rules. He then granted himself a divorce. Convenient, huh? As for sanction of patriotic loyalty, it was Hank who required it, not the pope. Then or now.

Wow chickenhawk. Yet another stunning example of your razor sharp intellect and wit. And the name-calling really highlights your maturity. Feel free not to address any point I made - oh, I see you've already done that. Cheerio, carry on then.
