"Ownership Society" for Whom?

Homes may be 'taken' for private projects (emphasis mine), and, more on the expansion of eminent domain.

"Ownership Society?" Right. "Ownership Society" means the government owns everything. You own nothing! They can and will take it away from you whenever they want, and they can give it to anyone else they want! If you refuse to sell the home that has been in your family for generations to a developer who wants to build a "planned community" of pretentious, overpriced, poorly-constructed houses, and wants your property, well, too bad for you. The developer's corporation donated $100,000.00 to the republican party, and you're headed for a tent by the river. In Bush's (supposed) words: "Let freedom reign!"

P.S. This actions is brought to you by a government wherein al three branches of government are dominated by the republican party. So, the next so-called conservative who gives me that ridiculous propaganda about the republicans standing for smaller government, less government interference, or any of their other stupid lies, can go to hell.

P.P.S. Am I being too easy-going about this? You can tell me.

Maybe the supreme court justices could see the benefits of a Mugabe style clearance. After all when it looks like you could lose an election, when those damn annoying minorities decide to vote, you could just tear down their homes and replace them with some conservative friendly condos. This may become the new method of gerrymandering. I'm sure Delay is frothing at the mouth over this one.

Ahh but then again I'm just a liberal extremist wacko who buys into conspiracies. What do I know?

Your scenario sounds a lot like all these big $ housing developments springing up around me.

I think we can thank government in general. Its a Republican and Democrat thing. Both parties, all branches are socialistic in nature and have bought into fabian collectivism. Just another step down that road of tyranny, Shea.

(Which gives me the opportunity to remind everyone--there ARE NO conservatives in government anymore)

Oh, also in reference to your question about too easy going...I think you weren't hard enough, Shea! The path to fascism passes first through socialism, then communism---its a natural progression. We've asked for the government's help for everything for years, now we have become a slave to it. No longer a free society with control over our own destinies we have given a machine the power to control our lives. Its not any more Republican than it is Democrat--its both.

The elimination of private property as a right is but the first step...

Maybe not anarchy, but a move back towards democracy would be nice. Of course we know why democracy cannot be indefinitely sustained. One of my favorite quotes:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."

Such is the natural order.
