Not impressed

Pelosi needs to get her act together. Why Murtha is claiming he is being persecuted by right-wing democrats is beyond me. Now is a time for the democrats to show what that can accomplish over the next two years, not a time to start in-fighting. Murtha should back off and let Hoyer run the house and Pelosi should get a brain. She needs moderates as the voice of the house not representatives that are going to advocate a total policy reversal. Iraq is a fuck-up but leaving it now is only going further destabilize a chaotic situation. I hope James Baker comes up with some good ideas, perhaps he can sell the war to Saudi Arabia.

The Democrat Party cannot help but give in to its most shrill elements--because they are the ones who control it. (Dean, Schumer, Clinton, Pelosi, Boxer, etc.) Expect to hear this a lot from the Republicans, because they were accused of the "religious right" being the controlling factor (which personally I think was a media creation--the truth of it being that the Republican Part was held hostage by their own--McCain and his gang, etc.)

We'll see how this shapes up.

Or at least a change in strategery. Stubborness has been just as bad.

And Jack, I tend to agree with you-I dont think the Religious Right was a controlling factor over the Republican party- I think the Republican Party has been a controlling factor over the Religious Right, essentially meaning that (quick pause: I cannot stand the term 'religious right' right up there with 'pro life' or 'pro choice'- stupid irrelevant media terminology) the Republican Party used Christians for votes and acted like a whole bunch of things they are not.

60 Minutes had a piece on a guy named David Kuo a couple of weeks ago- a member of the so-called Religious Right who went on to pretty much say how badly the Republican Party uses Christians/Conservatives for votes. Kuo's relationship with the White House was a noble cause, certain parts I disagree with about what he was doing, but the underlying theme was there: Republicans uses Christians on the right for votes and could care less about what they want.

Democrats had shown a good sense of unity, they get what they wanted, and yet they still find a way to piss and moan. Despite being labeled by Republicans as cut and runners- mostly from people who, well, cut and run when they could have really stood up for their country and what they supposedly believe in, there does seem to be an understanding that we can't just leave right away- I think it was essentially a call for some change of course- new leadership, strategy and at least some plan about how to conduct this war- which there has been absolutely none of except for the occassional fairy tale from Dick Cheney.
