Democrat: The Party of Conservatives

Why do Republicans think supporting warrantless wire taps is not hypocritical to conservative ideals? Oh yea, there are no conservative Republicans left. They've all become fascists. Republicans uber alles!

Indeed. Maybe I'm naive, but I actually believe that these wackos have our best interests in mind. The problem is they're a bunch of power hungry sociopaths who wouldn't know what our best interests were if we gave them a list!

Smorg,

I agree. The problem with Fabian socialism is that it will allow for less and less privacy. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few--and this is what one gets. Democrats are just as guilty as the Republicans--their protest is against Bush and the Republicans, not against the ideal. They let this go on UNHINDERED during the Clinton Administration (who DID use it against American civilians for political purposes).

Hi WSC! Good to see you. I am one of those people that still thinks America is the greatest country on earth--that comes from having lived in most. Of course I say that in all humility and thankfulness...

Hope you and yours are doing well!

Jack, presently Democrats are not driving us as quickly down the road to fascism. That might be solely due to the fact that they don't have as much as control, but they are the current voice of reason in Washington. I abhor party politics. I've said before that I wish all parties would be abolished and all political campaigns be publicly funded. But choosing between being punched in the face or stabbed in the gut, I'll take the face punch - i.e. Democrats. When the balance of power swings again, who knows. For now though, the Bush administration and the Republican-led congress is driving us right off a cliff. That much is clear.

Would having Kerry in office be any better? We can't say for sure, but I believe yes. What electing Kerry would have done, at the very least, is send a message that the American people don't like the road to fascism. It would have been a vote for change - hopefully change for the better, but change nonetheless. Even if Kerry continued down the same road, we would have made our statement. Instead we sat by and said "stay the course; that rapidly approaching cliff looks like a fantastic destination." That was a stupid, stupid thing to say.

God willing, the power will shift in Congress next month so there will at least be a check on this out of control government. Do I want power to necessarily go to the Democrats? No. But I want it out of the hands of Republicans and, unfortunately, there isn't any other option.

Typo! "as much as" control should be "as much" control. Sorry.

WSC,

Just a quick note. Please read what the major part of my blog is about. The description is on the right hand side, and it clues one in on the content. My blog is not a commentary on politics or a rehash of the news--it is a site that with a great deal of sarcasm and (attempted) humor tries to get a rise out of absurd happenings in the world--mostly politics. The News Snipet is not Neo-Libs nor is its content the same. Its purpose in the past has been to ellicit reaction and discourse--even the excited kind. I can see it is quite effective (and affective:) by your response! :) If you have a chance, pop back over and read my response to your reaction. It may help a little to know the differences in blogs and their purpose. (If you get a chance check out the Colbert Report, Jon Stewart's Daily Show, etc. They are shows based on a sarcasm--although some people see them as real news). Quick note: The Snipet readership isn't particularly that high--I don't really have a "readership to keep happy" per se. Its just something there to get the conversation going--and some of the ones I enjoy most are counterpoint--it is boring to agree with everyone all of the time or v.v.

Take care.

Smorg,

I agree with WSC, you hit the nail on the head.

I understand, WSC!

My final position in all this has become this:

The LEAST important decision you will make this year is who you vote for.

It is a shame that it has come to that--in other words, I know that many I will vote for won't even be on the ballot--and the ones who are don't have the money and backing of the two major parties so they have a snowballs chance in hell in winning. I will vote for one Republican this year--our governor (probably the LAST Republican--very unpopular with our House and Senate-reviled by most of the State's politicos--loved by the people. He is more what Democrats used to be and Republicans claim to be, but he's the only one I know.)

I think, though, that there is a chance we may see the rise eventually of a third party. Look at you, Mochi, CH, Smorg, me--we differ somewhat politically and ideologically, but recognized that those who pretended to represent our views have sold us out. The "new media" such as this blog, internet sources, etc., is beginning to bring people like you and me together--minds meeting, coming to an understanding that we can't support what's going on anymore and remain principled.

Smorg and I had talked about this before, and at that time I had come to the place where I thought we could kiss democracy goodbye--but who knows, we may see an upset sooner or later in your and my lifetime. Till then, we vote our conscience and principle.

I remember last election I was very vocal about not voting for President Bush the second time around (I voted for him the first time, although with great reluctance). Friends told me that to do so was the same as voting for Kerry. This situationally ethical viewpoint is what has gotten us into this mess to begin with. Choosing the lesser of two evils is still the wrong decision when their are still other options--even when we know those options will not work out. I have decided that I am going to vote for the best candidate--no matter what party--whether its they belong to the "Family Values Party" or the "Freedom Socialist Party of Radical Women".

I really appreciate you stopping by my blog, but keep in mind the degree of seriousness that its presented--and the one to take least seriously of all is its author, Jack :)

Have a great weekend, NL's! Glad to see the heat is being turned up on the site!
