A Heartbeat Away From The Presidency

This Op-Ed piece by Robert Kuttner in today's Boston Globe sums up my thoughts I have had about the presidency for a couple of years now. For those of you unfamiliar with Robert Kuttner, this link provides a little background on him. I do not always agree with what he has to say, but he is an extremely intelligent man either way and I could not agree any more with what he has offered in today's column.

It was an interesting read, and really is a testament to how irresponsible our media is as well. I liked it because he at least avoided the typical namecalling and Bush bashing and attempts to provide a logical insight into how this administration operates. This is why I have always said I do not think that he is the "evil" person people portray him as- I have never been able to bring myself to say he is a bad man.

I remember a press conference before election 2004 and a reporter asked Bush about potentially replacing Cheney on the ticket- Bush answered "Dick Cheney could be president." I remember thinking to myself "He already is."

And, I agree with you- PROBABLY true. Tough to say definite, because its tough to say that anything is definite with this country in this day and age. I rememember how bad we bashed Michael Brown during Katrina and then video was released months later which essentially exonerated him of blame for his supposed role in not managing effectively- we think we know it all, esp through the media.

Agree with Helen on this one also.

Maybe in 2008 we'll be writing ourselves in on the ballot and hoping to God we don't win.
