Not the Golden Gate, terrorists pick the Mackinac

After each new terror alert there are inevitably stories of over-zealous law enforcement agents arresting Muslim men for living their lives. Does the Tuscola county district attorney seriously think that men with a thousand cell phones and some photos of a bridge were going to commit a terrorist act? Where are the explosives? What's the motive? Do they hate freedom? Since buying cell phones and having photos isn't illegal what crime can they possibly be charged with? No offense to the people of Michigan but I've never heard of the Mackinac Bridge. I don't think it's going to be high on Al Qaeda's hit list...

Hi Mochi!

Not sure if this was posted tongue-in-cheek or if you were serious. Speaking from experience, the Mackinac bridge would be a huge problem--especially during heavy traffic, but also in terms of disruption. Terrorism does not always need high profile, highly guarded sites to create havoc. You can bet that it would be impossible to blow up the Golden Gate or Sears Tower right now, but the Machinac bridge may be another matter.

P.S. Think about all the restaurants and market places that the terrorists target overseas (Israel, etc.) Those are not high profile either.

This article indicates one theory about a labor day event where approximately 60,000 walkers would be on the bridge:

Unfortunately, it is illegal at this present time to take pictures of bridges and tunnels most everywhere. I was travelling to NY with friends visiting from Europe, who held their videocam out the window for a brief moment, and we were promptly reprimanded by a bridge attendant (who forunately let them keep their camera-- which, from my experience, doesn't happen often...)

Clearly, we can easily make sure all locations are safe from terrorists. All we must do is make sure the erudite Mochi never hears of them.
