Going nuts here

I've been going through some personal issues that have made blogging a secondary priority. But I don't think there has ever been a time that I have felt less comfortable about the political atmosphere in America. The hypocrisy is at a level that I never thought possible by any government, anywhere.

The administration jumped on Newsweek for publishing a story that allegedly incited violence. Did the Abu Graib situation not do exactly the same thing? Will the photos of Saddam, that Bush claimed would never incite violence because they are "just photos", not be the same catalyst? Our country is becoming a joke and I think that's becoming apparent to more and more people, including Bush supporters.

We need checks and balances, we need some semblance of legitimacy beyond freedom and democracy. I'm tired of it and it's getting to a point where other countries are going to lead by our example. What happens when China is the world super power and starts forcing their foreign policy down other country's throats? Who will be the first country to cry when citizens are being routinely tortured based on the probability of them having relationships with "people of interest"?

We are funding an administration that lies, sanctions torture, doesn't believe in science, bullies allies, destroys enemies, promotes theocracy and legislates against its most impoverished citizens.

I had a dream a couple of months ago. A few miles off in the distance, Boston was being bombed and attacked. I was on the run with friends and family for the duration of this dream. When I woke up, it all had seemed so real, it was pretty terrifying. That was realistically about as close I would get, or ever want to get, to a war zone. If a dream gave me such a horrible vision, I could not fathom what must go through the minds of our soldiers or Iraqis every day. I could not get this dream out of my head, and I think about it every day. After this dream, I imagined what if we got invaded by a country like China- whose army dwarfs ours in number- from the west coast. China, looking for a poodle to be the Blair to their Bush, allies with France, who invades us from the east. China has manipulated intelligence and attempted to convince the world that Bush's is a fascist regime and a direct threat to them and the world, and they want to remove what they label a right-wing statist government and impose their ideal system of a left-wing statist government. If Bush does not step down, they will invade. We get invaded, Bush is overthrown, but the invaders still remain. Americans are slaughtered and imprisoned, their homes and neighborhoods destroyed. The invading soldiers, mostly young men and women who think they are fighting for the security of the world, are blinded by government's lies and are being killed every day by Americans fighting for their country; both victims of a superpower's lies, both trying to survive, which depends on them killing the enemy. Mexicans sympathetic to America start crossing the border in droves to fight on our behalf, Canadians too. The citizens form militias, arm themselves to fight the occupiers and everyday are ambushing them and fighting back, trying to drive them out of their country. The people who fight back, and our neighbors fighting on our behalf, would be known as brothers, freedom fighters, and martyrs; not terrorists and insurgents. We are so quick to label the Iraqis and those crossing into Iraq insurgents or terrorists. The irony is, they are fighting for their freedom.

Mochi, sorry to hear about the personal issues. Hope everything turns out okay. You make a profound statement. No links necessary, just a powerful assessment of the world in which we find ourselves.

And Chickenhawk, the chilling scenario you describe could easily become reality the way things are going. Few people consider what it would be like if the tables were turned and another country trated America the way America treats other countries.

Mochi, I'm with Shea...hope everything works out well for you.

Mochi, I can see your despair, but I think realistically this applies to all government. Not just the current administration. Understanding government, one has to realize the degree of power that the presidency and his administration has, and that it is much more limited than people give it credit. Bush just gives a face and an identity for people to point at and hate. He is but a small part of the problem, Mochi. A study of the separation of and jurisdictional powers will help in understanding this.

The problem is that the average American is too ignorant to recognize that in Washington we have one party with identicle goals with different names just struggling for power over the people--two dogs fighting over the ownership of a bone. And what is going to happen is that while the two parties involve the populace in partisan bickering, they quietly take absolute control.

Questions:

Do you really think that Ted Kennedy cares one bit about the environment?

Do you think that polticians give a rats rear end if gays can marry or not?

Do you think that Delay cares about the people's right to keep and bear arms?

Think about it. These people are only interested in doing whatever it takes to keep them in power. As long as they find pawns willing to send them there then they will continue to use them.

Will be back for additional comment and discussion.

Regards everyone!

"Do you really think that Ted Kennedy cares one bit about the environment?"

Yes, I think that in general, he does.

"Do you think that polticians give a rats rear end if gays can marry or not?"

Some of the "Holy-Rollers" do; after all, Pat Robertson was a politician and there are a lot of politicians who are just like him. I'll look for the links I have to their quotes.

"Do you think that Delay cares about the people's right to keep and bear arms?"

Delay is only out for himself. In fact, he'd be better off not arming his electorate.

Shea, not being critical, but if you review your comments you will see the tint to your own glasses. :)

Arnold cares. This much I know. And after he retires, I would nominate Shaquille O'Neal for president. The man is a proven winner, and the people love the Big Aristotle.
I think, after all, that the President is just a figurehead. Why not one that the whole world would undoubtedly rally around?

Jack ("Shea, not being critical, but if you review your comments you will see the tint to your own glasses.") - While it's true I don't hide my biases, the statements about politicians and gay marriage, and DeLay, are pretty maintstream, middle-of-the-road responses. Now, as for the Kennedy statement, my answer contains two key phrases which make it a lot different than it might appear, if analyzed :)
