Unbelievable
This reads like a feel good story until you get to:

Follow up: I read today that the lifeguards didn't give CPR because they deemed it unnecessary. The kid was breathing and his heart was beating normally. The bystanders needlessly intervened during the confusion. The pond did, in fact, have the proper equipment. It just wasn't needed.
Well thats good. But if I may follow up on what Jack said: I grew up in Milton, and I can safely say that it is the only community in the country where prejudice indeed does not exist.
Blacks, Jews, Asians, Whites, Gays, everyone is hated upon equally.
Fun fact: Milton, MA has the highest percent of Irish Ancestry in the country:
