Not a "lucky country" for some

I suppose this means you are against tighter border controls and racial profiling at airports. Other than that implication, I'm not sure why we should care much about Australians beating up middle-easterners.

One of my mom and dad's best friends is a lebanese American, Tommy Asaff. He was back-up running back in the 1969 Texas Longhorn National Championship team (scored one touchdown). He is a fundamentalist, right wing conservative. I understand that most lebanese immigrants are. If such beatings were happening here, I would be very concerned.

Huh? I am against racial profiling, for realistic border control and against beating people for looking middle-eastern. I take it you are for racial profiling, for tighter border controls and for beating people who look middle-eastern?

If Tommy Asaff was a liberal would it be OK to mess him up a little, maybe break his nose? I'm not sure I understand your point.

For the same reasons I'm interested in the riots in Paris, I'm interested in what's happening in Australia. You never know we might learn something from it...

Because it is wrong, of course! And as Mochi points out, you appear to advocate such violence unless it is directed toward conservatives!

Kevin, do you actually believe the things you write, or are you just another internet troll trying to provoke a response?

I'm all for profiling. Its an effective tool. It shouldn't be the only investigative tool, but it can help.

I always find it funny that people don't like "profiling", but when some really heinous crimes are committed the first thing authorities try and do is put together a profile of the suspect. That includes using statistics to determine the person's race.

Making a person a suspect solely because of their race is ineffective. But if a person's race is part of a profile, and that person has other profile indicators, they should be a suspect and investigated accordingly

Racial profiling is not always an effective tool. You have to take into consideration several factors including the person who is "profiling." Such as a profiler for an agency that is solving a murder or trying to stop a serial killer is much, much different than a person profiling and harassing people based on what they look like. A racist cop or immigration officer will profile for no other reason than skin color. This is unacceptable.

People have gotten out of hand in "profiling" who they think a bomber/terrorist will be. Most Arab Americans are not Muslim and most Muslim Americans are not of Arab background. Arabs are members of an ethnic group including countries like Algeria, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco (also Iraq). Muslims are members of a religious group of the Islamic faith. There are anywhere from 2 to 5.7 million Muslim Americans in this country. 2/3 of them are US born and citizens.

And as for tighter border control...the government has not caught even 1 --- count it - "1" terrorist coming through the Mexican border b/c I very well know that's what everyone refers to. Why isn't everyone bitching about the Canadian border? Let's face it, jumping on the "tighter control for the border" bandwagon is really more about immigration than terrorists coming through. Fact is that most "terrorists" have enough money to come through the borders legally as did the 9/11 bombers.

BTW, sean, most serial killers, mass murderers, and child molestors (historically) have been Anglo-American. So are you saying that while these crimes are being investigated (child molestation is ongoing) that all white men should be subject to investigation? That will be the day! ... but I will laugh all day long if it ever happens!

Lostintx is right. How many terrorists are going enter the country by walking many miles across the desert with a jug of water and a bag of clothes as their implements of destruction? If control of the Mexican border is about terrorism, then apparently terrorists are a very important part of our economy in the southwest, especially farming!

I like that Lostintx points out that 2/3 of Muslims in America are US born citizens. Some commenters in this blog have said that Islam is waging war against us. Does that mean we need to go back to the days of WWII internment camps?

Cripes Lost, you just skipped over everything I wrote after the first two sentences, didn't you. Either that or your retention is pretty bad. I know this because what you wrote is the same thing I wrote. Racial profiling: Bad. Profiles that include race: effective.

I know that the vast majority of serial killers are white males between something like 18 and 35 years of age. So, if a bunch of people were murdered in the same way, then I, as a white male within that age range, fit one of the profile marks. Should I be investigated?

Yes. Until it is determined whether or not I fit other profile criteria. Didn't you say you were in law enforcement? Seems pretty basic.

nd as for tighter border control...the government has not caught even 1 --- count it - "1" terrorist coming through the Mexican border

And how do you know this? Are you aware that there is a category referred to as OTM for people crossing the border? That stands for "Other Than Mexican". So obviously it isn't just mexicans crossing the border.

Fact is that most "terrorists" have enough money to come through the borders legally as did the 9/11 bombers.

Unfortunately for all these wealthy terrorists the U.S. has put in stronger controls over legal immigration since 9/11.

Why isn't everyone bitching about the Canadian border?

They do, but people pushing for tighter Canadian borders don't get the same push-back from illegal immigrant sympathizers.

How many terrorists are going enter the country by walking many miles across the desert with a jug of water and a bag of clothes as their implements of destruction?

You're just as lost as Lost is. If people can be smuggled across in trucks, so can bombs, chemicals, and other weapons. Drug smugglers already have a pretty good and reliable system for transporting large quantities undetected into this country. Someday the Islamists will figure it out too. After all, they've got plenty of money to finance scouting operations.

Some commenters in this blog have said that Islam is waging war against us.

Not sure who said that. I've always maintained that we're at war with the Islamofascists - you know, the people that want to kill you just because you're not Muslim and won't subjugate yourself to an Islamic theocracy.

A professor from the University of California, who is also a national authority on immigration, states not a single terrorist has been caught entering the Mexican border.

If you have any other stats to prove otherwise I'd gladly review them. I, personally, have not heard of one being caught and I'm sure that would be a newsworthy event.

I'm pretty sure that SeanNC and I were referring to people actually and physically crossing a desert as opposed to driving through a port of entry. You are making reference to an entirely different scenario. Lack of proper tools to detect humans, drugs, bombs, and chemicals in vehicles and trucks is something I agree the government should be working on. It's pretty sad that they can just drive across right under our noses with all of the above. I was referring to illegal immigrants that cross tuberculosis infested waters and walk for miles in unbelievable heat. I'm sure they would prefer to drive across too.

Uh, do you think all smugglers go through the ports of entry? They have back routes that they use to haul their drugs and people over the borders.

I love your mentality, Lost. "We haven't caught any terrorists sneaking across the border, so there isn't a threat of terrorists sneaking across the border."

Here are a few items for you to chew on:

Congressman John Culberson (a Republican from Texas) tells the John and Ken show that Middle Eastern men with links to al Qaeda links have been entering the U.S. illegally via the U.S.-Mexico border.

Middle Easterners with possible terrorist ties have been detained after entering the country from Mexico but released for lack of jail space, according to Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz (a Democrat from Texas).

An Iranian man recently convicted of drug trafficking told a former associate that he "may have smuggled two of the hijackers who flew the planes into the towers in New York on September 11, 2001."

al Qaeda agents are hiding out in Central America.

A suspected al Qaeda agent arrested in April 2004 reveals a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Padilla says that Zubaydah was skeptical about the idea of them building and deploying a nuclear bomb, but nonetheless, told them he would send them on to see Khalid Sheik Mohammed, also known as KSM, the operational leader of al Qaeda and the mastermind behind September the 11th. ... KSM suggested that they enter the United States by way of Mexico or by way of Puerto Rico, and that once in the country they locate high-rise apartment buildings that had natural gas supplied to all floors, that they rent two apartments in each building, seal those apartments, turn on the gas, and set timers to detonate and destroy the buildings simultaneously at a later time. This was precisely the mission that Padilla and Jafar had trained for, and now Padilla had a new accomplice.

No, no terrorist threat here. Move along folks. Nothing to see here. Keep it moving.

If your ignorance was so deadly it would be hysterical.
