More stupidity from the TSA

The federal government is allowing scissors and screwdrivers back on planes. There is no reason why a passenger would need to carry-on a screwdriver; other than securing a loose table tray, removing an arm rest or tightening the wiring around a bomb. Scissors, same thing. If people really want to keep in-flight magazine articles they can rip them out.

A few years back a group of Saudi guys worked out how to kill 3,000 people by slitting throats with box cutters. Although I agree tweezers and nail clippers pose no threat, there are items that should be banned from the cabin of a plane.

Mochi, you are right on with this one. I love their reasoning too: It's bombs that are the real threat, so scissors and dead flight attendants are no big deal. Is Mike Brown back in the saddle?

I wonder what their reasoning is. Setting the stage for an election-year emergency, perhaps?

Come on Shea, either they're evil manipulative geniuses, or they're incompetent idiots. You can't have it both ways. An election year crisis caused by their own dumb policies will cause the GOP to tank faster than Madonna's last movie. Even I'd vote Democrat under those circumstances.

This is just a dumb, dumb, dumb move. But hey, at least the scissor can't be longer than, what, 4 inches? And it isn't like you can take scissors apart. Why would anyone want to take them apart and have two 4 inch blades?

Dumb dumb dumb.

I've always been of the opinion that if someone wants to hijack a plane bad enough, it will get done. I don't think general security on mass transit has improvement much, honestly. It does look pretty stupid that the TSA are reversing their former position about small "weapons" but I don't think that stance did much good in the first place. It only served to aggravate regular commuters.

Take the Commuter Rail in Boston, for instance. After the Madrid bombing they sealed all the trash cans so no one can throw anything away. This was one of the dumbest and frankly condescending things I've ever seen. Commuters bring large brief cases, luggage, back packs, etc. on the train every day. If someone carried a bomb on the train in one of these vehicles there would be no need to throw it in the trash can. They didn't even use the trash cans in Madrid!

Point is, most of this post 9/11 security frenzy is useless garbage. It is in place to create a feeling of security rather than actual security. I, for one, would feel better being able to throw my trash away.

All this hullabaloo and still the 9/11 commission says we’re no safer.

Sean: just to clarify, the frontman is the incompetant idiot, and the evil geniuses* are the power(s) behind the throne.

*I don't consider them geniuses, but oh, well...

Smorg, completely agree about our security situation. One of the dumbest things (prior to this announcement) was the restriction on searching only two muslims per plane. Hello, TSA? Um, who was it that hijacked the planes on 9/11?

Shea: I gotcha. I sometimes find it hard to follow the Bush/Bush Administration bashing. Sometimes they're all supposed to be bumbling idiots, sometimes not.

Sean,

I posted an essay that I would like all NL's and NL visitors to read. Now I know it is tremendously LONG, but it is my hope that it will be educational.

I am not a Bush basher. I cannot find it in me to hate anyone, much less Presidents past and present. I know that when President Clinton was in office I had "conservative" friends that actually hated him. I have noticed that there are many who hate President Bush. While there are many things that these presidents do that should make us angry, I find it difficult to think that there was anything that could truly make us hate them.

I think that it is time that people begin removing the blinders from their eyes and begin to put both knowlege AND wisdom to work. It was for this purpose that I wrote this article. Would appreciate any comments negative or positive, and look forward to any dialogue or understanding this may create.

As I cannot get the link to work, it can be found at www.newssnipet.blogspot.com and it is titled: "THE LIBERAL BUSH ADMINISTRATION"

Regards,

-Jack
