Thinking long and hard
Bush on the mother who lost her son in Iraq:
"Listen: I sympathize with Mrs. Sheehan. She feels strongly about her position. And she has every right in the world to say what she believes. This is America. She has a right to her position," Bush said. "And I thought long and hard about her position. I've heard her position from others, which is: Get out of Iraq now. And it would be a mistake for the security of this country and the ability to lay the foundations for peace in the long run if we were to do so."
Do you think he could have said he was sorry for her loss? No because then he would have to admit people die in Iraq. Still I'm glad to hear him say that he's been thinking long and hard about this... That's always comforting.

Do you honestly think he tries to fool himself into believing/thinking people are not dying in Iraq?
Bush: "I've thought about their cry and their sincere desire to reduce the loss of life by pulling our troops out. I just strongly disagree," he said.
I'm not suggesting that he doesn't know people die in Iraq just that he considers it an inconvenience in the context of the war.
Mochi,
Bush went to see this woman personally. She was all aglow with admiration for him after he left. She praised him and the administration, then made a total about face. She has lied multiple times (well, changed her story drastically). What gives?

Jack, again I ask: is it so inconceivable to you "resolve" nuts that she could have supported the war and her president once, until she learned he was a liar and the war was a sham and her son was killed because he was being used as cannon fodder to enrich the neocon empire? She has changed her position, and Bush is afraid to meet her face to face. Sure, he met her when she was an acceptable photo-op; Bush's handlers have always adhered to their policy of striclty avoiding those who disagree with him and only placing him before admirers. Now that she's changed her position, the cowardice of the neocons is displayed again.
You know what Jack, it's disappointing you get your news from Mens News Daily. So she supported Bush when her son was in Iraq. Just like the massive majority of marines support the president until they find themselves without a limb in a German hospital. I can't imagine how anyone could attack this woman, left or right.
Just asking, Mochi. And I got this story from CNN. Her friends, neighbors and even family are puzzled at her behavior--why would I be less so? Its not an attack, its simply a question...
-Jack
I didn't take it as an attack.
I take it back I never would have guessed you visit the Clinton News Network.
Ha!
You'd be surprised, Mochi.
Can you believe I read the BBC and the UK Guardian also?
Wow!

Perhaps thats true, but dont blame Jack. Like everything else in this country, the media starts playing with this and next thing you know, everyone is all divided and debating over something that seemed so cut and dried. Here we go again, you know? Now Cindy Sheehan is a delusional liar, OR, George Bush is an insensitive prick.
I have indeed read stories about Bush's insensitivity and plain idiocy- especially when the mother of a murdered soldier offered him a little perspective, which most spoiled rich boys do not have- can you imagine the pain you would be going through if you r daughters were sent to war and came back in a box? Apparently Bush just stood there with an insulted look on his face and had nothing to say. But as easy as it is to point the finger at him, don't forget about all the other elitist bastards who voted for war so effortlessly, so long as they would not be personally affected by it. No, I am not a Bush supporter, but I would like to see him not having to be the only one to visit with families. It would be nice if, perhaps/God forbid, Senators or Representatives from the dead soldiers' state of residence might grow a goddamned spine and face the families of those they sent off to be killed. Maybe that does happen, but I havent read or seen anything about it.
I remember I used to watch David Letterman a lot when I was in my teenage years. I remember the month of August back in either 95 or 96, cant remember. But every night that month, his opening monologue included a commentary on the vacation the Clinton's would take to the Vineyard, and that it was for 3 weeks. Every night Letterman would say, in his sardonic manner that I so admired, "Now President Clinton, you know him, bubba, tubby, well he is in the middle of a 3-week vacation to Martha's Vineyard. can you imagine taking a 3 week vacation just like that, especially when you are the leader of the free world?" He would repeat it night after night, and it was just funny, because hey, it was true. But this guy we have now, and his balanced lifestyle and all that, it is ridiculous. This man spends NO time where he is supposed to be spending it. It leads me to believe more and more every day that he sets no policy and makes no decisions whatsoever, they are all done for him and in his easy, simple, down-to-earth manner, he goes out here and there and gives a statement.
*If you get a chance to watch Jeff Foxworthy's Comedy Central roast, watch it. There is a Bush impersonator, I didnt get his name, but he gets up to roast Foxworthy, and hands down, the best Bush impersonation I have ever seen- the accent, facial expressions, awkward body movements. It was absolutely hilarious.

White House aides say they worry about the precedent, should Bush see Sheehan again.
"Does he have a second meeting with every mother or wife who asks for one?"
Those damn annoying mothers and wives...
Will be back for more comment, but Wolnsc, do you know any of the soldier's names who have died? Have you paid any of thier families a visit? There have been many presidents in history who have not even done a "group event"...
Like CH, I think we conjure a lot of things that may not really be there.

Cripes. Not another one who thinks we were "lied to" in order to get us into this war. I guess the guy who ran for President on the Democratic ticket, who wanted more than anything to beat Bush in 2004, was just too dumb to know we were all hoodwinked. Not only did he vote for the war, he had access to pretty good intel, being on the Senate Intelligence Committee and all. I don't recall him making any stink about Bush lying to get us into this war. If that were really what happened he and his people could have gotten hold of the information and made it public. Funny how that didn't happen. Perhaps because, despite intelligence scew-ups, nobody actually lied
