News Snipet on Neolibs

This is interesting. It's from a conservative guy's blog. He often has some good posts. It never ceases to amaze me how people, left or right wing will cease constructive debate and turn personal.

Ha! Mochi, I was accusing you guys of the same thing! :)

I answered your comment on my blog.

Think maybe there was some misunderstanding?

"Anyone that disagreed with them were card carrying KKK members"

"No, I am not accusing them of terrorism, but I am saying that their is no difference in the fundamental thought process."

Not getting drawn into this, sorry.

Since I am the "pig" who caused Jack Mercer to slither back from whence he came, I would like to add a few thoughts regarding this.

Mercer's blog entry, the one you cite, demonstrates the characteristics which I found worth of criticism. He begins by stating that he visits other blogs "to offer a bit of education to help them see past their own bias and ignorance". In other words, he immediately proceeds from a position of condescension and, in fact, his own bias and ignorance. Without knowing anything about those whom he calls ignorant and biased, he makes those assumptions. And what are they based on? As I said, he has no knowledge of those whom he accuses, so it is only his own ignorance that uses as the foundation upon which is argument is built.

Mercer's position is always ego-driven. He claims we are biased, yet he is certainly biased himself (everyone is, to some extent). For him to criticize anyone for that is hypocrisy, plain and simple. His approach whenever I engaged him in a discussion was always condescending - he told me my opinion had no credibility (apparently no opinion other than his is allowed that lofty quality), and was always telling me that if I really wanted to know the "truth" I should read articles he saved from extremist right-wing publications. He also repeatedly accused be of being less well educated than he. His repeated insults grew tiresome, and his predilection for generalization (a sure-fire way to lose any argument) was annoying.

It was a no-win situation with him: if you offered an opinion, you were called ignorant and biased. If you cited an source from the media or elsewhere, you were called unoriginal. If you were passionate about a subject (and in this blog we are), you were called too emotional. Keep in mind, though, that Jack Mercer was allowed to indulge in all those things, because he knows everything. No one else was allowed those indulgences, only the enlightened one himself.

When his arguments were answered point for point, he decided to take his ball and go home. He's still stinging, apparently. Life's a bitch when not everyone agrees with you, ay Jack?

Mochi:

"pointy-hood-wearing claptrap"

"You should be a middle-school civics teacher or something. At least then you could be reminded, from time to time, that you’re not all that."

Read your own blog, Dude.

Continue to preach to your choir, and congratulations on being 9th!

I don't mean to get in the middle of this interesting little spat, but I have one point to make: Jack lost credibility for me the instant I went to his blog - not because of his political viewpoints, but because of his "bio". Man, that's the most pretentious thing I've ever seen. It's impossible to think clearly when your ego is that big.

Mochi, we may all be guilty of sounding personal from time to time. If I have done so in the past, and I probably have, then please forgive me.

Well, as I said above, blame me for any negative vibes here, although I was playing defense at the time (geez, you should have seen what I edited out!). Ultimately, I became the "annoyed pig" to Mercer. I wish he wouldn't blame Mochi for my impatience. Oh well. As Farmer Hogett said, "That'll do, pig."

Oh, c'mon, guys, don't you understand satire?!

News "SNIPET" (Btw, Snipet is NOT a word. It is made up--I made it up--to me it means to SNIPE at something, take a shot, etc.) is all about poking fun at the world's absurdities. Smorg, my "bio" is poking fun at myself.

LIKE ME, you guys take yourselves WAY too seriously.

SNC, the "pig" reference is metaphorical!

Do I have to spell it out?

TRUCE--wait, I SURRENDER, I'm beaten--I'll slither back to where I came from. (Although with my body shape, slithering is rather difficult)

Oh, and btw, I can't resist coming to visit neo-libs...
